Recently, Hearts on Fire announced that Homeland’s brazilian actress Morena Baccarin will be its new brand ambassador. The actress will start appearing in magazine advertisements for the diamond brand beginning in September.

Morena will showcase Hearts on Fire’s new fashion collections in print ads in well-known fashion and lifestyle magazines such as, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire and Town & Country. She also will appear on the brand’s digital and social media platforms wearing the latest pieces from their line.

Hearts on Fire first began to recruit brand ambassadors in the fall of 2011, initially hiring fashion bloggers before bringing on board television costume designer Janie Bryant and artist, actress and fashion designer Tara Subkoff. Now the brand is upping the ante with Baccarin, a 2013 Emmy nominee for her role as Jessica Brody in the Showtime series Homeland who also has appeared on popular CBS’ The Good Wife and The Mentalist.

“With the success of our bold, new fashion collections, it was the perfect time to showcase these designs on a recognizable face. Morena is the perfect representative for Hearts on Fire and we are thrilled with our partnership,” said Caryl Capeci, vice president of marketing at Hearts on Fire.

With such a healthy combination of Morena’s stunning good looks and charm, the Hearts on Fire brand is sure to attract new clientele.

David Yurman, Beauty in contrast

Have any of you seen the new  David Yurman add campaigns?? Well, recently Model Kate Upton who just graced back-to-back covers of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, is now swapping out her string bikinis for David Yurman’s classic cable designs.

Upton is one of four women tapped by the designer for its fall 2013 advertising campaign, with the theme  “Beauty in Contrast.” The idea behind the campaign came as an effort to highlight how “diverse elements can coexist in a delicate balance,” a theme which is chosen because of the diversity in Yurman’s designs, both his classic pieces and those from the fall 2013 collection.

The campaign features elegant and refined pieces along with more earthy and artisanal designs. The new collections coupled with iconic favorite designs are heavier alongside more minimal pieces. Overall, the brand said it selected four very different women to make up their models for Beauty in Contrast.

Upton, who is blonde and blue-eyed and was raised in Florida, represents the all-American girl while Anais Mali, a French model whose mother is from Chad and whose father is Polish, has a global/European sophistication. Dree Hemingway, a member of the famous Hemingway family, bears a patrician refinement, while Catrinel Marlon, a Romanian model who also has been in SI’s Swimsuit Issue, has a mysterious sensuality, the brand said.

“Through design, styling and imagery, we tell a story of contrast in all its mesmerizing beauty,” Yurman said. “Beauty is always more intriguing in contrast.”

Photographer Peter Lindbergh shot the campaign, which features the women wearing a combination of classic Yurman designs and selections from the fall 2013 collection, including the new miniature version of Yurman’s signature pinky ring. Beauty in Contrast debuts this month worldwide in print and online outlets as well as on DavidYurman.com.

Yurman founded his eponymous jewelry company in New York in 1980. The brand has 25 stores throughout the United States, France and China, and the jewelry is sold at retail outlets, including many independent jewelers, across the U.S.

Hera Arkarakas Silver Jewelry!

As the price of gold maintains remains unstable, many jewelry designers are continuously looking for new more cost effective ways of expressing their designs. One designer in particular is Hera Arkarakas of the brand Hera who absolutely loves to combine the two metals.

In her most recent sterling silver collection she features 18-karat yellow or pink gold accents, which she says allows consumers to incorporate their existing gold jewelry with new pieces to give them a fresh, modern look.

“I wanted the collection to be very versatile to give women the ability to accessorize and capture all their unique fashion looks. As women, we live busy lives–juggling our careers, family life as well as fitting in a glamorous night or two out on the town. Jewelry is an accessory that can easily take an outfit from casual day to formal evenings,” Arkarakas said.

Arkarakas also feels that her gemstone statement rings are some of her most popular pieces, because they add color and a unique flair to outfits. The hematite mist- and champagne mist-colored stones are neutral and easy to wear, Arkarakas said, while aqua mist and violet mist add a punch of vibrant color. The Brooch

More often than not, brooches seem to have their phase of coming in and out of the jewelry scene. Although their history is somewhat scattered and shallow much like their often frequent disappearance, their overall purpose is usually mistaken and use misunderstood. Historically, brooches are decorative jewelry which are made of a metal ranging from either silver, bronze, or gold. They are also decorated with enamel of gemstone and meant to be used as a piece to fasten together two pieces of clothing.

Although their use seems somewhat practical, I guess the reason they are hardly every used is because we hardly have any true practical use for them. I’ve noticed their popularity slowly creeping its head recently as more jewelry aficionados such as designers and stars have worn them. Many people whom use brooches, usually uses them as pins on their blouses to convey a message or image of sorts.

This maybe a matter of opinion, but i’ve hardly seen a brooch that can compare to brooches made within an era of popularity. Ive scoured the internet to find some brooches of new and old to clearly make a case for my observation. You be the judge.

New Star of China

As some of us have heard, Kim and Kanye aren’t the only ones attracting attention for their little one’s choice of name this week. Recently, the executive of a Chinese jewelry company announced a similar act of baby naming as she’s attached to her baby, a 75-carat briolette diamond now known as “The Star of China.” As seemingly ridiculous as this may sound, this naming bug has been something that has been a form of inspiration from many varying sources.

Tiffany Chen, vice chairwoman of China Star Entertainment Ltd., is the wonderful woman who purchased the 75.36-carat, D color, Type IIA diamond at Christie’s May 28 Magnificent Jewels sale in Hong Kong. As is the tradition with exceptional diamonds, Chen named her stone, selecting “The Star of China” as a nod to her jewelry company.

Chen who paid a whopping $148,000 per carat for her Star, set a new sale world record for a briolette diamond at auction and was just one of the latest in a line of record-setting sales. The $39.3 million sale of the Princie diamond at Christie’s New York set a new record for a Golconda diamond at auction while the 101.73-carat pear-shaped Winston Legacy raised the bar for colorless diamonds at auction when it sold for $26.7 million.

Asia’s New taste

In a recent Hong Kong jewelry auction, there has been a noticeable shift in the tastes of jewelry collectors. Although there were a variety of pieces offered ranging from celebrity inspired pieces to actual jewelry worn in actual films,  the star power had almost no effect on the price of these sometimes interesting collectables.

At the top lot of the auction was a wonderful pair of jadeite bangles, which sold for $6.9 million to an Asian private buyer. Overall, when the dust cleared, the auction totaled $36.9 million and 79 percent was sold by value.

This ruby and diamond necklace (above) sold for $3.2 million, while a jadeite and diamond suite, consisting of a necklace, earrings and a ring (below), realized $2.4 million.

All top 10 lots of the auction, which were largely jadeite and diamond pieces, were sold to Asian private buyers.

“Nowadays, jewelry collectors have much wider interests,” said Ellen Sin, director of Tiancheng’s jewelry department. “Besides the conventional top jadeites and diamonds, colored gemstones like natural rubies and emeralds have been sought after and drawn increasing attention … We will continue our perseverance in bringing more unique jewelry in line with market tastes from all over the world to collectors.”

Bright light on Silver Jewelry

As the price of gold remains volatile, there has been a surge in designers preferring the use of silver jewelry to gold and other precious metals. One designer in particular,  Jude Frances, has debuted a series of new silver offerings which truly peek everyone’s interests.

Besides the edgy, attention-grabbing cuffs with black rhodium and black spinel which is depicted below, the brand’s new line of jewelry also includes elegant bangles and hoops with white rhodium and white sapphires, and pendants with blue topaz and citrines.

Also pictured below is jewelry from Jude Frances’ SoHo and Laguna collections, from the company’s spring/summer 2013, fall 2013 and core silver lines.

Mauro Felter Jewelry

Today’s post  is part of our Designer spot light series. Our designer being spotlighted is Mauro Felter who has grown up in a land choc full of  history in a valley in Northern Italy where the ancient “Camuni” lived.  With a deep influence by both the past and the wonderful nature of his native territory, which has had influence which has brought his artistic career and essentially his creations to life.

His uniqueness in design has accented his jewellery which is strictly hand-made, with its own set of unique features.  Coupled with an eye for style and a strong personality, designing and creativity were determining factors leading to his success. With is works being exhibited in various Italian art galleries and taking part in important exhibitions of art, he has designed and created numerous pieces such as awards for actors, singers and Italian TV stars, as well as international fashion designers of all sorts.

Recently he’s decided to open his exclusive showrooms in an effort to exhibit his best works and collections which he’s conceived:In Vallecamonica, which is an hour’s drive from Milan. As he continues his search for new inspiring solutions through a healthy combination of gold with innovative cut precious stones, pearls and corals, Mauro Felter is sure forge a steady and growing path as a successfull jewellery designer.

Fortunate for us in the states, at the Couture 2013, Mauro Felter brought some of his best inspirations in an essay to make his mark and wow us all. Below, i’ve featured some of his remarkable pieces which are sure to be a great addition to anyone’s jewelry collection.

Engagement ring finder app: The VOW

Wedding and engagement season is soon upon us as the winter fights off its time to roll back. As this season comes into full swing, many eager brides to be anxiously start parousing through different internet jewelry stores and sites with their hopeful future husbands hinting and in search of that fairy tale engagement ring. In this day and age things have taken a slightly different turn in making this arduous and time consuming search more easily through our world of apps. Yes there’s an app for that.

In October 2012, Simon and Nelly Cohen  developed and launched their fledgling engagement ring finder app, The Vow.  When they debuted their app, the cost of creating it amounted to their entire life savings. Luckily for the longtime married couple—co-owners of Cherie Dori and the Diadori bridal lines—their nest egg investment seems to have been well-spent.  The Vow, is currently ranked in the top 50 in Apple’s Top Free Lifestyle Apps—the single most popular diamond, jewelry, and ring-finder app, ahead of the big names Blue Nile, Tiffany & Co., and even Cartier. This app is so popular that it receives roughly 3-4 thousand downloads a day!!

The Vow allows users to survey 120 Diadori bridal engagement SKUs in 3-D, while a GPS feature locates the closest of 350 participating retailers. “We’re not in the middle,” says Simon. Additionally, Diadori rewards users for sharing the app and helping to generate new leads—aka potential ring buyers—by giving points for things like posting pics of favorites to Facebook. The points eventually add up to a prize, such as a cultured pearl necklace. “All we do is uplift the brand of the store [carrying our pieces],” explains Simon.

The Cohens invested in the app after reading research which shows that ­consumers prefer shopping on apps instead of websites. (Shoppers like the speed and convenience of mobile apps, reports a March study from ­Compuware.) Now, the company has a wait list of retailers that want to be involved. “We are combining both worlds, Cyber-shopping and stores ” Simon says.

Pearls Red hot for Christie’s in London

Magnificent jewels from the 1920s, which are characterized by simple, geometric shapes and an abundance of pearls, have been the highlight of Christie’s important London Jewelry sale, which is scheduled for June 5th.

Christie’s recently said the sale includes an “extraordinary array” of Art Deco earrings, pendants, diamonds and pearls. Jewelry produced during the 1920s and 1930s, also known as the decades during which Art Deco flourished, are extremely varied in design and was influenced both by contemporary artistic movement and the machine age, hence the use of geometric shapes such as: circles, rectangles, triangles and trapeze forms.

Christie’s also said some of the best jewelry from the Art Deco period has, arguably, never been surpassed in terms of designs and workmanship. The pieces which remain among the most sought-after jewels on the auction market today are from this time period.

Leading the June 5th sale in London is a natural pearl necklace from 1925 which is composed of three graduated rows of natural saltwater pearls. It has been estimated to sell anywhere between $512,000 to $821,000.

A pair of Art Deco natural pearl and diamond ear clips are estimated to garner as much as $14,000 while a longer, single strand of 69 graduated natural pearls is estimated to fetch between $54,000 and $70,000. Pearls were a “staple” in any jewelry collection from the 1920s, Christie’s noted. From the looks of things, many jewelry aficionados and collectors from this period will be sure to flock to this event which will be held in London.

The pieces and a lot more are set to be featured all making this excursion to London worthwhile.
